Can't possibly be happening. My worst nightmare has come true!! Let's start with how this was discovered, for the first time this evening, by not one, but both of my girls.
Potty training has been a staple in our house for some time now. We've tried stickers, treats, potty seat and a little potty on the floor. We have some successes, but not enough to be anywhere near potty trained...or even close. But, the girls have both discovered the art of potty stall tactics. If they don't want to go to time-out, they'll scream "Potty! Poopie! Potty!!" on their way to time-out. And when it is time for bedtime, they'll scream "Potty! Poopie!" if they just don't want to go to bed. They'll head to the bathroom and just sit...and sit...and sit...and laugh, and read and sit..and sit...and sit. Tonight was no exception to that rule. When the screaming seemed more than a stall tactic, I lifted Savannah out of bed, and sat her on the potty. Who knows...maybe she'll surprise me and go. What do I know. She loved it...and did nothing in it. Time to lay her down. The entire time Savannah was on the potty, Madeline was screaming "Poopie!! Potty!!!" wanting out since Sissy just got out. Madeline had finally been settled down, by the way, until Savannah decided it was time to go. So, I did the drill with Madeline because fair is fair. The minute I got Madeline out of her crib to take her to the potty, guess who started screaming again. Savannah. "POOOPIE!! POTTY!!"...even though we had just spent a good 15 minutes on the potty with no results. With Madeline now on the potty, Savannah screaming, I heard a lot of noise going on in their room...so I headed down the hall, walked into their room just in time to find Savannah straddling the crib. I grabbed her just before she fell over....Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can't be happening!!!!
Finally got them both back in the cribs - both screaming at the top of their lungs - when I look over and Savannah climbed right back over the crib rail again, and "thump" landing on the floor. Madeline, still screaming for the potty, saw this and that's when the leg crawled up....
and then the rest of her climbed up....
and my other 2 year old figured out the art of climbing out of the crib in the very same night. And in that same instance, life as we've known it....life of being comforted knowing my girls were in the confines of their cribs...is over.
I gave the girls a stern lecture on how they were never to climb out of their cribs again. I told them that they could get very hurt if they climbed out like that and fell on the floor. I told them that if they climbed out of their cribs, it would be an automatic time-out. Madeline said "Ok Mommy. I sorry Mommy." and Savannah just listened...only to go back to their rooms, get back in their cribs, and as I turned around, the sound of "thump" resounded in my ear as Savannah made her third escape in one night.
Oh life as we knew it - life in a controlled environment- is over. On to the next phase of life with twin toddlers!!!
